According to the new rules in the general data protection regulation [GDPR] any business which is processing personal data of people in or from Europe and the United Kingdom, but is not based in those territories, must appoint a local representative by law.

And following the United kingdom's decision to leave the European Union, the so-called ‘Brexit’ at the end of this year, businesses based in the UK will need a representative in Europe and businesses in Europe will need a representative in the UK.
